Carolyne came to see one of the Employment Specialists at La Clé de l'emploi, Janet, in November 2014, because she needed guidance in her job search, and help in updating her resume and cover letter. She applied to some job postings in December without success. She came back to see Janet on the morning of January 15 because she saw a job posting that interested her, and asked Janet help to tweak her cover letter and resume for this potential job.

A seasoned Assistant Manager was laid off after 7 years when a major retailer closed its doors.  She was able to obtain employment at a similar business, but was “let go” as she was not a good fit before her 3 month probationary period was complete.  Her spirits were down, confidence crushed and when she had no success in her self-directed job search, she connected with TRACKS.  Within 2 months, she connected with an employer that was a great match for her – We assisted her with 1:1 counselling & support, labour market information, job s

Before I came to the learning centre, I didn't know an awful lot about computers and my writing skills were not strong.  I learned how to type, how to do emailing and I improved my writing skills.  I also spent time looking for jobs during the training and applied to several.  I give credit to the Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program for helping me to upgrade my skills which in turn helped me get a full time job with a local trucking firm.

One of the younger clients of Northern Lights Canada (Bracebridge) completed his Forestry and Environmental Resource Management Diploma.  For approximately 6 months he searched for a job in his field and was unsuccessful as he did not have work experience.  Through the Youth Employment Fund we found him a position at a local timber mill.  His new employer will be providing him with additional training and the experience he requires.

I was in the Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program for 4 months.  Before I started here, the thought of checking out college courses was the farthest thing from my mind—it was totally unthinkable.  I felt I needed, “Learning Computers For Dummies” when I first came here.  I just needed the right place to learn, the right tools and the right person to help me.   I went on to take bookkeeping courses at our local college and now I work from home with my own book keeping business and work part time as a book keeper for a local business.

It had been several years since I had worked and during my time of unemployment I went back to school twice. Having been out of work for a few years, I found the job search process confusing.

After applying on-line for a contract position in Yellowknife, NT. I went to Bradford WORKS for some assistance. Both Martha and Alison were a great help to me while I was trying to get examples of my work copied and sent electronically. We also had to do a lot of research as to what positions paid across Canada.
